Bringing together indigenous youth for the sustainable use of nature

Indigenous woman

On 17 August, BES-Net and the African Wildlife Foundation held a virtual Indigenous Youth and Intergenerational Wisdom Storytelling Event.

The event provided a platform to bring together indigenous and local youth to share knowledge and discuss experiences and solutions on the sustainable use of wild species in biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration.

Five local youth champions and an elder from different countries shared their stories and the reason behind their belief in the importance of biodiversity in a fireside circle.

Given indigenous youth are often under-represented stakeholders, this event offered a learning opportunity to hear their deep-rooted perspectives, expertise and experience in sustainable use.
