In Sanzara, the EBA approach within the FLR process aims to enhance ecosystem goods and services through appropriately increasing tree-cover in agricultural land, particularly local indigenous species, with the added benefits of reducing soil erosion, providing shade, producing firewood, and also improving food security for socioeconomic benefit to the community. The project is working to implement EBA specifically to bolster climate resiliency with a host of other benefits, not least of which is advancing gender equality in the community. From design, planning, and implementation, the Sanzara Community Learning Center—jointly set-up and supported by community members and local authorities— has promoted a gender-inclusive approach and is allowing the community to reap additional environmental, economic, and social benefits.
