This Technical guidance document was prepared in the context of the EU-funded project “capacity-Building related to multilateral environmental agreements (meas) in ACP countries – Phase 2”. Fao implemented the first phase of the project focusing on the elimination of obsolete pesticide stockpiles and capacity development for improved pesticide management. This second phase continues some of the pesticide-related activities addressed in Phase 1, but includes activities related to additional meas, to address synergies between meas in the agriculture sector. The convention on Biological diversity, the implementation of relevant Aichi Biodiversity Targets, and the preparation/implementation of national Biodiversity strategy and action plans are a focus. in this context, this Technical guidance document was prepared for the East Africa region – with a focus on Kenya – for building institutional capacity for synergistic implementation of meas and to identify opportunities for managing biodiversity and ecosystem services as alternatives to chemical inputs.
