Description

The Policy Communications Director plays a lead role in developing communication strategies and campaigns to support The Nature Conservancy’s policy priorities. They will be part of the government relations team but work closely with marketing, conservation, and other teams.  In addition, they will support The Nature Conservancy’s conservation goals by participating in project teams, and may serve as liaison and informational contact between The Nature Conservancy and federal, state and local agencies, business and/or partner organizations.  

The Policy Communications Director identifies, plans, designs, implements, and coordinates communication needs to affect public policy and further The Nature Conservancy’s mission. This includes writing and producing executive-level speeches, talking points, and collateral for all communication mediums; identifying and tailoring messages for target audiences; and developing and fostering relationships with key policy stakeholders and media contacts. They will serve as a senior writer with lead responsibility for writing and editing a variety of communication materials. They will work closely with the marketing team to leverage marketing channels such as social and earned media to achieve our policy priorities.

Location and Schedule:

  • The preferred primary location for this position is Seattle, Washington, with other locations in Western Washington state considered. Hybrid and/or flexible work arrangements are available.
  • The position requires occasional travel throughout Washington State, the ability to be onsite at The Nature Conservancy’s office in Seattle as well as the State Capital in Olympia as necessary, and working long and/or flexible hours, including some weekends, as needed.
