Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) is a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots organization focused on national policies to address climate change. Our organization is volunteer based and organized by congressional districts. CCL staff train and support volunteers to build relationships with elected officials and the media to empower their own local communities, generate the political will for fair, effective climate solutions in line with science and political viability. CCL prides itself in its unique approach to educating elected officials on climate action, particularly bipartisan action. We aim to build upon shared values rather than partisan divides, and empowering our supporters to work in keeping with the concerns of their local communities. This is how we work towards the adoption of fair, effective, and sustainable climate change solutions
This intern will assist the Action Teams Coordinator in coordinating CCL’s 50+ action teams, groups at CCL formed based on common interests. The intern will also assist with creating coordinated actions for all CCL chapters, which currently number over 500 nationwide.
- Apply CCL fundamentals and Grasstops Engagement methodology – “determine with prominent community leaders the most impactful action they can take to show district support for climate action, and then work with the influencer to take the action”
- Call on the phone CCL volunteers who have (1) expressed an interest in engaging prominent community leaders, (2) joined the Grasstops Engagement Action Team, and (3) listed themselves as “Chapter Grasstops Engagement Managers”. Discuss with these volunteers, (a) what they have done and what they plan to do, (b) success stories, (c) lessons learned, and (d) what information or tools do they need to take their work to the next level.
- Capture progress and success stories from volunteers and create a summary report.
- Participate in monthly Grasstops Engagement conference calls on the 2nd Weds at 5pm Pacific.
- Potential in mid to late 2021 for CCL volunteer advocacy work in District, lobbying in District and in Washington D.C.
