Description

This position will report directly to the Country Director – Fiji in alignment with the CI-Fiji Strategic Plan and regional organization priorities, develop annual terrestrial program work plans and budgets with clear priorities and KPIs for the terrestrial team, and ensure their efficient and effective implementation of terrestrial work program. As a terrestrial program manager, leads the development, management, and implementation of terrestrial projects, ensuring its ongoing alignment with national priorities and ensuring strong delivery on the CI-Fiji KPIs; supervises CI-Fiji terrestrial programme conservation staff, providing technical assistance as required, in accordance with CI policies, procedures, and standards. To achieve these objectives, the terrestrial program manager will need to comfortably operate at project, national, and regional/international levels, building relationships and engaging stakeholders at the local, national, regional, and global levels. This position will work closely with the Marine Program Manager, Sustainable Fisheries Program Manager, Strategic Communications Manager, Operations Manager, and Fiji Country Program Director, to contribute to, work planning, project implementation, and the effective development and engagement of stakeholders in terrestrial space in Fiji. Knowledge of Fiji’s protected area work, restoration, and mangrove conservation work including but not limited to Fiji’s REDD+ and carbon markets initiatives. The Terrestrial Program Manager works to ensure all terrestrial project results meet program standards and project deliverables are completed on time and within budget including supervision of all terrestrial project staff. The role will also establish a project work plan including staffing and capacity-building needs as and when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Country Director in the implementation of program strategy and objectives. Develop detailed work plan & budget for the projects.
  • Oversee the overall implementation of all terrestrial projects, and lead in the implementation of all activities and coordination of multiple projects.
  • Effective management (which includes budgets and planning), risk management, monitoring and evaluation, and best practice service delivery of the terrestrial work program.
  • Gather, develop, and share project information, actions plan, and deliverables with internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Ensure cross-project activities involving partner/stakeholder standards and interests are represented and incorporated into project deliverables, including managing and coordinating various stakeholders (government, CSOs, and communities) involved.
  • Serve as the single point for service providers to CI under your charge for any issues associated with the delivery of the project.
  • Represent CI and ensure effective communications and information sharing between all partners and stakeholders.
  • Reviewing project plans and directing changes if necessary to achieve key deliverables in compliance with partner/donor agreements, CI internal policies, and Fiji Laws.
  • Monitor project progress and provide technical advice on the project’s management.
  • Identify trends and corrective actions to resolve problems and ensure future project efficiencies. Help identify tools, resources, and training that will facilitate project success.
  • Manage the preparation of reporting summaries and project narratives. Collaborate with HQ and Program finance and operations staff on project financial and technical reporting.
  • Support Fiji program and partner field teams to deliver against donor expectations, effectively and responsively by ensuring quality and timely reporting for partner and donor activities.
  • Successfully deliver your projects to your clients, by providing deliverables on time, within budget, in accordance with client expectations, and in compliance with all contract requirements. This includes the management of the project scope, schedule, budget, and any necessary changes.
  • Guide and advise Fiji management team on critical issues pertaining to terrestrial resource management and identify potential concept ideas for development.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Working Conditions

  • Staff will work from CI’s Suva office with travel to the field office for official business when required.
  • May need to work extended hours as needed.
  • Periodic travel to the project site and other office locations.
  • Comfortable working out of doors for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outside the normal work schedule to meet project deadlines.
  • Guidance on flexible work arrangements will be shared during the interview process.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree and proven experience in Forestry and Agriculture with technical and field monitoring activities.
  • 4 to 6 years of related work experience in project management, including planning and budgeting.
  • Up to 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong proofreading skills.
  • Team player and able to work effectively with many groups of stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Detail-oriented and able to prioritize, manage, and complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Service focus, courteous, tactful, and proven ability to effectively interact with others.
  • Ability to function well in a cultural, diverse, and fast-paced work team environment.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree and proven experience in Forestry and Agriculture with technical and field monitoring activities preferred.
