Description

Forestry, Agriculture and Livestock are key elements of the Climate Resilient Green Economy vision, because of the level of emissions under the business as usual scenario and their positive contribution to resilience building. The country’s Climate Resilient Green Economy Strategy places forests and wood-based energy at the forefront of actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote green growth. Consequently, Ethiopia developed an Investment Plan (REDD+ Investment Program) for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) and a National REDD+ Strategy (NRS). In addition, the National Forest Sector Support Program has been developed which provides a detailed analysis of how the forest and land use sector should be implemented, and regional investments are currently being implemented.

To support GoE in implementing the National REDD+ Program, the Environmental Forest and Climate Change Commission (EFCCC) is looking to hire a National REDD+ Coordinator to coordinate national REDD+ activities and specifically to coordinate plans for the Drivers of Deforestation and Degradation (DD) Component of the REDD+ Investment Plan (RIP). In the later regard, the Coordinator will play the key leadership and coordination role for the implementation of forest protection measures in Ethiopia’s carbon rich south west forest block, mainly in Oromia, Gambella and Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regions. The Coordinator will be in the National REDD+ Secretariat located at the EFCCC and will be working under the direct supervision of the Deputy Commissioner (EFCCC) and reporting to the project partners including UNDP, FSTU and ISFSDP.  Besides, the role in RIP-DD component, he/she will be responsible for coordination of the National REDD+ Program including the ongoing REDD+ investment project in Oromia.
