Job Responsibilities
- Design and lead surveys to understand social dimensions of elephant conservation.
- Collect available secondary data and baseline on Human-Elephant conflicts in Arunachal Pradesh.
- Prepare technical reports and draft manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate in conservation planning workshops with key stakeholders to design a conservation plan for Asian elephants in Arunachal Pradesh.
Programme Development and Fund-Raising
Programme Implementation and Technical Support
- Conduct social surveys on land-use, agriculture, and conservation conflicts in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
- Support the WWF-India team in drafting technical reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts on Elephant Conservation.
- Assist in designing surveys and data collection protocols for studying social dimensions of biodiversity conservation in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
- Support the compilation and analysis of primary and secondary data, including spatial data and creation of maps.
- Provide technical training as needed on human-elephant conflict management.
Administration, Financial Management, and Monitoring
- Manage a team of consultants and project associates, coordinating fieldwork across the elephant range in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Networking, Coordination, and Communication
- Coordinate with the State Forest Department, Local and Indigenous Communities, and other key stakeholders for collaborative conservation efforts in Arunachal Pradesh.
- Lead consultations with local and Indigenous communities and other stakeholders on livelihoods, land-use, agriculture, and local aspirations, with the aim of embedding biodiversity conservation considerations into local development planning.
Requirements
Desired Qualifications, Experience & Abilities
- Master’s/Post Graduate Degree in Sociology, Social Science, Conservation, Ecology, Biology, Natural Sciences, Environmental Psychology, Environmental Science, or any allied field.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience post-Master’s.
- Experience in conducting studies on social dimensions of human-wildlife relationships.
- Proficiency in study design, data collection, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative social science data.
- Proficiency in technical writing, including reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
- Demonstrated experience working with local communities for biodiversity conservation.
- Ability to lead a team and carry out fieldwork in remote locations of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
- Prior work experience in Arunachal Pradesh.
