JOB DESCRIPTION

A. PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The Project Officer will work under the overall guidance of the IUCN Country Representative, under supervision of the Project Manager, IUCN, and in coordination with Senior Project Officer, ensuring the successful implementation of project activities related to wildlife surveys, species assessments, and initiation of the process for development of the Red Data Book. Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Provide support in implementation of project activities as per the agreement between IUCN and Punjab Wildlife & Parks Department, in alignment with the approved work plan.
  2. Maintain close liaison with the district level local staff of the Punjab Wildlife & Parks Department to solicit their cooperation and support in implementation of the project.
  3. Assist in maintaining project budgets and tracking expenditures in compliance with IUCN’s financial policies and donor guidelines.
  4. Coordinate with project staff, including field staff, and consultants to ensure the timely delivery of work plans and quality outputs.
  5. Maintain close collaboration at District level with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, and conservation organizations, to effectively implement the project.
  6. Assist in stakeholder engagement, consultations, and organizing workshops on wildlife assessment, surveys, and species monitoring.
  7. Provide support for data collection, field surveys, and species assessments, ensuring adherence to standardized methodologies for scientific outputs.
  8. Ensure compliance with IUCN and donor policies, including ethical guidelines for wildlife research and conservation activities.
  9. Assist in preparing technical, financial, and progress reports for submission to IUCN and donors, in line with project requirements.
  10. Assist in the development and implementation of a communication plan for disseminating key findings and raising awareness of species conservation.
  11. Provide technical support to project staff on surveys, assessments, data processing and reporting for the Red Data Book development.
  12. Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

B. PROJECT/PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT

  1. Assist in designing and implementing new wildlife conservation projects aligned with global biodiversity goals.
  2. Support the development of funding proposals for complementary initiatives, including species conservation, ecological research, and policy advocacy.
  3. Technically assist biodiversity assessments, conservation planning, and policy recommendations, supporting IUCN’s broader program.

C. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Contribute to IUCN’s One Programme Approach, ensuring integration across different conservation initiatives.
  2. Assist in strengthening institutional relationships with government agencies, conservation organizations, and IUCN Members.
  3. Represent IUCN in meetings, workshops, and technical forums related to wildlife conservation and species assessments at District level.
  4. Support knowledge-sharing by contributing to publications, reports, and policy briefs.
  5. Ensure IUCN’s branding and conservation messaging are effectively communicated in all project-related activities.
  6. Ensure effective communication of project updates within IUCN and externally with partners, in consultation with IUCN senior management.
