The position is located in Montreal, Canada, at the UN-Habitat Montreal Office for Green, Resilient and Sustainable Cities. The focus of this position is to support the process of co-creating research, policy and action between the network of partners and relevant UN-Habitat teams in order to accelerate sustainable urban development, inter alia through the implementation of urban climate, biodiversity, and resilience solutions with local governments within and outside of UN-Habitat’s structure of regional and country offices based in Montreal, Canada. The Programme Management Officer reports to the Lead, Montreal Office and under the overall guidance of the Director of the UN-Habitat New York Office. The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains host country relations;
- Establishes a strong network with international, regional and local donors and partners as well as UN-Habitat teams;
- Contributes to the development and implementation of resource mobilization strategies to mobilize additional support;
- Develops, coordinates, and maintains networks of partners who are willing to advance the work of the Office;
- Participates in the development of assigned programmes/projects in the areas of sustainable urban development, in particular climate and biodiversity solutions; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; and identifies and track follow-up actions
- Researches, analyzes, and presents information gathered from diverse sources
- Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc
- Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc
- Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities
- Participates in or leads field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc
- Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting
- Performs other related duties as required.
Job Qualifications
Work Experience
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in programme management or project administration, or strategic partnership development and management, in the field of sustainable urban development is required
- Experience and demonstrable knowledge of issues concerning sustainable urban development, with a focus on climate change and biodiversity is desirable
- Experience working in research, innovation, strategy, and policy in the area of urban climate and biodiversity action, and their intersections is desirable
- Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
- Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; Knowledge of French is desirable.
