The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet’s wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America’s bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our staff of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and internationally from our offices in New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Santa Monica; San Francisco; Bozeman, Montana; and Beijing.

Position Summary:

NRDC Action Fund is seeking a Program Coordinator to support the Executive Director and work with our team in NRDC’s Washington, DC office. The NRDC Action Fund is an affiliated but separate organization from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). Our mission is to build political support in the United States for protecting the planet and its people. The Program Coordinator will bring a high level of organization and initiative to supporting the Executive Director and the Action Fund team, as well as their interactions with the Action Fund Board of Directors and NRDC staff.

Responsibilities

Executive Support

  • Provide strategic administrative support for the Executive Director (ED) including calendar and project management.
  • Support the Executive Director’s use of his calendar and to-do list to ensure that Action Fund programs and projects are proceeding, and that important milestones and to-dos are being met.
  • Delegate or attend and represent the NRDC Action Fund at meetings on behalf of ED and other senior team members as needed.
  • Provide research support and write first drafts of emails, and other documents as directed by the ED.
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations for use by the Executive Director and others
  • Strategic thought partner for ED to help think through board relations, project management and other AF strategic priorities and projects.

Board Relations

  • Plan, project manage and execute three meetings of the NRDC Action Fund Board of Directors.
  • Partner with ED and the Action Fund’s Development team plus other Action Fund/CPA staff to ensure the development of content and message strategy for meetings of the NRDC Action Fund Board of Directors.
  • Work closely with and manage external vendors, the NRDC Action Fund team, the Corporate Counsel team and NRDC colleagues to ensure the production of the board books, PowerPoint presentations and other materials for quarterly board meetings.
  • Coordinate with NRDC’s Board Relations team to manage synchronization between the NRDC Board of Trustees and the NRDC Action Fund Board of Directors and schedule and plan future board meeting dates and locations.
  • Work with ED, Director of Communications and Corporate Counsel team to draft weekly board reports of Action Fund priorities and accomplishments in Associated Press (AP) style.
  • Draft correspondence, emails, event invitations and other communications to the Action Fund Board of Directors as directed by the ED.
  • Assist in scheduling, communications and preparation of all Committee meetings of the Action Fund Board of Directors.

Additional

  • Assist the Director of Communications with select writing, research and direct-mail or digital advocacy fundraising projects as assigned.
  • Support the Action Fund’s Development team in cultivating and maintaining large donor relationships, expanding membership of the NRDC Action Fund Board of Directors and other development projects as assigned.
  • Project manage triennial NRDC Action Fund Membership meetings in coordination with Development, Corporate Counsel, Membership, and Communications teams.
  • Provide logistical support for Action Fund all-staff meetings, public events, and conferences including scheduling, catering, and meeting set-up and take down needs.
  • Provide calendar support to other senior team members for team meetings.
  • Work closely with the Operations Coordinator and Corporate Counsel team to process invoices and other administrative forms on a timely basis.
