POSITION SUMMARY

Our pursuit of Justice Equity Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) at OC has allowed us to realize an enormous opportunity to assist with environmental justice issues in port communities within the context of our Shipping and Arctic work. We are increasing partnerships and coordination with community groups as well as labor organizations and municipalities. Establishing good faith to bring more community members into the work is our priority.

The Ports Coordinator will report to the Associate Director, Shipping Emissions and with the support of the Ports and Infrastructure Manager have primary responsibility for coordinating and convening the four Port / Community Liaison. This individual will assemble the Liaisons on a routine basis and help collate information from each distinct region. The Coordinator will also provide support to the Manager and four Liaisons that are located coast to coast, while contributing to the team effort by accomplishing related goals as needed.

To do so, the Coordinator will facilitate meetings, provide calendar support, aid in the development and creation of informative presentations and/or videos and be a comfortable public speaker. This individual will be able to prioritize work flows and synchronize schedules to support the Shipping and Ports Justice work. In addition, they will be discerning and decisive in communicating with the Ports and Infrastructure Manager.

The ideal candidate will be a progressive and proactive teammate, who works effectively across culturally, ethnically, and racially diverse teams, and who is passionate about organizing and problem solving. They will be dedicated to ensuring that communication to and from each region is clear, simple and concise.

This position is based in Washington D.C. but will work remotely until CDC guidance changes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary support to the Associate Director, Ports and Communities on the finalization and distribution of small grants.
  • Lead collaboration with the Ocean Justice Team on engaging with the community in a way that is mutually beneficially and influences positive environmental change.
  • Support Port Liaisons with meeting facilitation.
  • Complete operational requirements including maintaining schedules that expedite work flows.
  • Supports team by performing tasks related to strong communication.
  • Provides clerical support to ensure efficient team operation.
