Description

The PFP Engagement Coordinator will provide support for effective engagement of stakeholders as well as Local Communities (LCs) and CBOs through close collaboration with the PFP project team. This includes supporting aspects of the day-to-day tasks required for the successful development of the PFP for Mongolia. Reporting to the PFP Project Manager with a dotted line to the Community-Led Conservation project lead at TNC Mongolia, the position will be based at the TNC office in Mongolia. No employment visas or assistance is being offered with this position except for the local labor employment requirements.

This position will support the design of capacity building activities for community-based conservation by, for, and with local communities within the scope of the PFP. The PFP aims to provide support to ≈960 CBOs, to help promote sustainable CBNRM. In the planning phase of the project, we will be defining the scope of these activities to be supported in PFP implementation including a) secure herder resource management rights over traditional grazing grounds; b) strengthen CBO and herder capacity; c) enable herders to develop CBNRM management plans which emphasize more sustainable grazing practices, and d) promote sustainable livelihoods and income streams (including through place-based livelihood diversification and economic development). This work will build on the experience gained through a current TNC program, “Securing Mongolia’s grasslands for people and nature”, designed to expand outreach and support to CBOs at scale to build greater pastureland sustainability.

In addition to supporting CBNRM, the PFP Engagement Coordinator will design participatory approaches to engage herders in planning for the improved management of the protected area network including nature reserves, nature monuments and LPAs. This position will also provide strategic advice the PFP Project Team and to the Government of Mongolia on mainstreaming CBNRM and foster the recognition of herder’s management rights in policy and legislation (e.g., recommendations on the amendment the protected area law and land law).

WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOU

The PFP Community Engagement Coordinator provides support to the following areas: (1) coordination of the PFP Planning phase tasks with government representatives, stakeholders and LCs, (2) organizing and coordinating meetings including engagement with stakeholders and LCs and tracking of follow-up actions and commitment, and (3) development of documents, presentations, and other materials. They support key coordinating functions that help staff, LCs, and stakeholders work in an efficient and effective way, such as tracking project status in a project management software, maintaining a shared Box folder, tracking meeting commitments and minutes, and following up with partners to ensure work is proceeding as planned, with following responsibilities and scope:

  • Build relationships with a full range of rightsholders and stakeholders including local communities, community-based organization, and non-governmental actors, local government and other interest parties.
  • Represent the PFP, support logistics and participate in community-based workshops, events, meetings, and initiatives to communicate the project, solicit feedback, facilitate collaboration and relationships.
  • Identify and record community co-benefits from conservation projects supported by the PFP through the development of a community engagement plans and final community benefit plans.
  • Work with consultants as well as local partners to identify and record income generating and livelihood improvement initiatives that may lead to greater social impacts and returns.
  • Supporting the design of the PFP to drive sustainable natural resource management, uphold human rights, and advance the living standards and wellbeing of LCs based on analysis of issues, risks, and opportunities with CBOs.
  • Lead the development of a monitoring framework for the PFP to track the impact of community conservation projects and benefits.
  • Provide content to funding proposals and communications to funders to articulate the approach to stakeholder and CBO engagement.
  • Financial responsibility may include managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating, and contracting with consultants, assisting with budget development.
  • Coordinate and contribute to workstreams related to stakeholder engagement, LC issues as well as track status via a project management software
  • Under minimal supervision, makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context.
