Description

The Trust for Public Land is a national organization committed to working with communities on Land Conservation, Parks and Schoolyard projects providing health, equity, and climate benefits, and improved access to nature. In Oregon we are focused on two strategic program areas: (1) Rural Green Schoolyards Program uses participatory design to create and build fun, healthy and educational outdoor spaces in underserved rural communities where our work can improve the quality of life and access to nature and; (2) Healthy Forests Healthy Communities Program conserves land for natural and cultural resource values, climate and recreation benefits in priority watersheds.

The Project Manager position will play a leading role working with the Oregon and NW team, and be responsible for overseeing all project management activities associated with implementing the strategic new Oregon Rural Schoolyards Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Schoolyard and Parks Project Management (90%)

  • Works with community organizers and landscape architect to;
    • Develop and strengthen relationships with school districts, local representatives/leaders, government agencies, and non-profit partners in rural communities.
    • Coordinate with partners and community organizers around outreach, meetings and events to strengthen diverse and inclusive representation for the spaces being created.
    • Oversee community and student outreach and involvement around participatory schoolyard and park design.
  • Lead role;
    • Manage budget, schedule and contracts with general and sub-contractors to carry out the development of three schoolyard and park projects.
    • Takes primary responsibility for all day-to-day project needs including oversight, decision making and partner coordination through project completion.
    • Provide regular updates and clear communication to staff and funders about the program.
  • Support the State Program Director;
    • Developing and implementing strategy to increase public awareness and public funding policies for additional green schoolyard and park projects throughout the state.

Organizational Capacity (10%)

  • Works with Oregon and Washington TPL staff to develop a comprehensive knowledge of the breadth of work being undertaken in the NW including fundraising, grant writing, land conservation acquisition projects, and park design/development.

Additional Functions

  • Builds public awareness and understanding of TPL in the community.
  • Completes assorted administrative tasks required for a high functioning program.
  • Works with TPL Philanthropy, Marketing, and Conservation Finance staff as needed and appropriate on all projects.
