Description

The Investment Officer, Americas is a director-level position within the Conservation International Ventures program (CI Ventures), the impact investment arm of Conservation International (CI) that invests in Small and Medium Enterprises. The position will lead/oversee the development of the CI Ventures portfolio in the Americas through investing in and maintaining a diverse portfolio of investments in the prioritized countries in the region: Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Peru (Brazil under potential consideration).

The ideal candidate will possess strong financial analysis skills and the ability to evaluate, integrate and translate diverse financial and non-financial information in a manner that is useful for investment decision-making. The selected candidate will be fluent in financial analysis techniques using both qualitative and quantitative methods and will have demonstrated experience in the design, execution, and evaluation of financial transactions involving the public, private or blended financing in a conservation and/or sustainable development context.

The position will report to the Vice President for the CI Ventures program and will engage actively with their global CI Ventures colleagues. CI Ventures sits within the Conservation Finance Division and hence the position will require strong collaboration across multiple divisions and external partners, representing CI in interactions with conservation and development partners engaged in conservation finance, CI grantees, and implementing partners.

Only candidates with the possibility of working in Mexico will be considered for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and implement an investment strategy for the Latin America region:

  • Define investment targets for the region and per country.
  • Identify the most appropriate instruments for the delivery of investments.
  • Benchmark investment conditions as part of the pricing mechanisms.

Develop and manage a portfolio of investments:

  • Lead the general investment processes from deal sourcing to negotiating terms and executing investment opportunities in the Latin America region.
  • Lead the discussions with the Investment Committee members, clarifying and following up on concerns expressed by them on the proposed investments.
  • Manage a dynamic portfolio of investments, including deal performance monitoring, and tracking compliance with reporting obligations.
  • Lead and/or support the cultivation and management of strategic partnerships with leading financial sector and key industry partners, enterprise accelerators and incubators, academic and civil society institutions, and other key partners in order to promote deal sourcing as well as follow on and co-investment opportunities.

Support projects execution in connection with investment opportunities/commitments:

  • Support management of the portfolio of projects and initiatives in connection with the fund investment strategy, primarily in Mexico and Peru, including coordination with local teams, investment advice and tracking of key requirements, activities, and deliverables, and associated scheduling, budgetary, and reporting requirements.

Support fundraising efforts:

  • Support cross-divisional, and cross-programmatic fundraising and development efforts, including cultivation and management of key funder relationships, leading and/or supporting the development of aligned funding proposals, and strategic fundraising and communication materials.

Manage America’s regional team of investments:

  • Manage regional investment team providing guidance, performance appraisal, and support for goals setting for upcoming periods.
