The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environment authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UN Environment’s Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economics in transition. The Caribbean Environment Programme promotes regional co-operation for the protection and sustainable development of the marine environment of the 38 Member States and Territories of the Wider Caribbean Region. Established in 1981, it formed the basis for the development and adoption of the Cartagena Convention and its Protocols on Oil Spills, Marine Biodiversity (Specially Protected Areas and Wildlife – SPAW) and Pollution (Land Based Sources of Marine Pollution – LBS). Three sub-programmes of the Caribbean Environment Programme are Pollution; Marine Biodiversity and Communication.The internship opportunities are in the UN Environment, Caribbean Environment Programme (UN Environment-CEP) in Kingston, Jamaica. The UN Environment-CEP internships are for a duration of a minimum of three months, with a possibility for extension up to a maximum of six months, depending on the needs of the Organization. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35-40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Responsibilities Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s academic background, skill-set, the nature of specific projects and duration of the internship. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Carry out research, analysis and drafting of documents, and present data and information to support the implementation of projects and activities including the preparation of briefs, information material and presentations; Assist in the compilation, design, and dissemination of info-graphics, factsheets, and awareness materials including for posting on the CEP website, social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Linked-in), display at national/regional events and inclusion in monthly and quarterly newsletters; Prepare Outreach and Promotional material for major environmental commemorative days including: International Day of Biodiversity, World Ocean’s Day, World Environment Day and International Coastal Clean Up Day; Assist in the update of the CEP Focal Point and Photo Databases; Provide support to the implementation of programme and project activities at UNEP CEP including representation at national events, exhibitions; meetings of environmental clubs etc.; Assist in preparing for the 2018 Intergovernmental Meetings including summarizing reports on the implementation of the Cartagena Convention and its Protocols in member states. Carry out research and assist with the drafting of UNEP CEP strategy development.
