The Indigenous Stewardship Fellowship is a two-year position designed to advance Ocean Conservancy’s growing body of work supporting and advocating for Indigenous-led conservation in Alaska. The Fellow will strengthen and support Ocean Conservancy’s partnerships in Alaska. Working with the Director of Arctic Indigenous-led Conservation and the Arctic Team, the Fellow will also explore new partnerships for Ocean Conservancy while building writing, research, advocacy, communications and other skills.

The ideal candidate will be based in Alaska, or willing to relocate to Alaska, and will have access to reliable high-speed internet. Ocean Conservancy provides financial support for internet connectivity. This is a full-time position for a two-year term with flexible hours.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support Ocean Conservancy partnerships throughout Alaska, including in the Pribilof Islands, Northern Bering Sea, Yakutat, and Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim regions, by drafting written materials, participating in development of strategies and conducting research and other tasks as needed.
• Build and maintain cooperative relationships with Fellows at the First Alaskans Institute (FAI) to further shared objectives among Ocean Conservancy and FAI.
• Conduct research and writing to help inform and advance Ocean Conservancy’s Arctic Team priorities.
• Participate in the development of internal and external communications materials and strategies.
• Work with the Director of Arctic Indigenous-led Conservation and Conservancy’s Ocean Justice program to support Indigenous-led conservation efforts outside of Alaska.
• Other duties as assigned by Director of Arctic Indigenous-led Conservation.
