Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial leader who has experience working with corporations and state and regional governments in Europe to join the Climate Group. 

The Head of European Programmes will lead the Climate Group’s programmes from our new office in Amsterdam, working to enhance our collaboration with the European networks of business and sub-national climate leaders to drive greater greenhouse gas emissions reductions. The Head of European Programmes is a leadership role, focused on building a a programme of work that creates longstanding impact in line with the Climate Group’s Mission and a team to support delivery.  To that end, it will also look help to build the Climate Group’s position and reputation for thought leadership with the EU and other European governments and stakeholders as opportunities and our mission require.  The role will span across the systems targeted in the Climate Group’s global strategy – energy, built environment, transport, food and industry.  

This role will be anchored within the Netherlands, helping lead our new Netherlands office, and will focus on driving impact across European countries as well as in business action and policymaking at the EU-level. It will also work with and benefit from close collaboration with the Climate Group’s global cross-functional teams (Communications, Fundraising, Finance and our regional offices). 



About you

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, dynamic professional committed to driving forward net-zero solutions by capitalising on opportunities for impact within our existing programmes and identifying opportunities for future impact. 

You will have both a global and domestic perspective of the opportunities and challenges faced as we transition to a low carbon economy. Moreover, you will be flexible and entrepreneurial with sound judgment, a nonpartisan approach, and a keen understanding of the need for strong ambitious partners willing to provide both intellectual and financial capital to solve the world’s most pressing problem.  

You will be able to demonstrate proven capabilities in the following areas: 

Essential 

  • Significant experience of working in the climate and sustainability field and proven track record in designing and delivering strategic climate action initiatives in the European context 
  • Excellent command of climate change issues and relevant policy, financing and technology solutions
  • Strong understanding of public and private institutions in Europe and own network of relationships to help build the Climate Group’s stakeholder engagement.
  • An ability to lead impactful, collaborative engagement with businesses, states, cities, and NGOs
  • Excellent people management and team-building skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution 
  • Strong analytical skills 
  • Experience in fundraising and relationships with key funders in the field of climate and sustainability 
  • Good financial skills including managing and reporting on project budgets 
  • Ability to multi-task within a small team, manage conflicting priorities and tactically build-on the work of a wider global team.  
  • Ability to work with sensitivity and inclusiveness with a diverse group of people and ensure that the Climate Group’s commitment to EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion), in the workplace is strongly upheld
