The Global Director of Development (DoD) for Provide Food & Water will work towards meeting the strategic priorities of TNC’s Provide Food and Water (Provide) pillar and the North America agriculture (NAR ag) conceiving, developing and managing a development program to secure significant financial resources. The major focus will be to support fundraisers throughout the organization and to identify and engage new donors for the organization, including for Provide and NAR ag. The location for this position is negotiable within the U.S.

The DoD is externally and internally focused on long-rage fundraising priorities for Provide and NAR ag conservation strategies as well as serves as an agnostic fundraiser for the organization. They cultivate and grow a donor base for Provide and NAR ag by working with fundraisers throughout the organization.  In addition, they do discovery work in new donor audiences to find new donors for TNC’s work overall, including Provide and NAR ag work. They will also manage a small portfolio of donors for the organizational priorities.

The DoD is a member of the Principal Gifts Team and Global Development team.  They will be an active participate in all team calls, retreats and joint work.  The DOD will also be a member of the Provide Leadership Team and will participate in Provide leadership meetings and calls when directly relevant to Provide fundraising.
They report directly to the Director of Global Development and work closely with the Provide and NAR ag team leadership and strategy leads.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

• Build portfolio of 10-15 donors who are giving at the MG and PG level and raise an average of $2M each year for the organization (which could include Provide but is not limited to Provide). Partner with other global DODs and conservation leadership in this effort.
• Discover 5 new MG and PG donors each year for the organization. Donors may be managed by the Provide DOD, other DODs, state, regional or PG fundraisers (depending on the best fit and determined by the supervisor).
• Serve as the fundraising contact for Provide and NAR ag with the goal of raising $12M annually including:
  • proactively sharing information and opportunities with fundraisers across TNC to engage their prospects including funding needs, concept notes, matches, big wins, media and engagement/stewardship activities such as travel, presentations, virtual events
  • respond to fundraiser requests for support for donor engagement, solicitations and stewarship
  • making connections for fundraisers to content experts and donor comms support
  • helping fundraisers with donor strategy as requested by the RM
  • working with leads on their networks to identify new prospects for the org
• Ensure that concept papers and proposals for Provide and NAR ag include DEI and if not possible, other funding is committed to other DEI work in the strategy/programs
• In collaboration with Provide operations team, track and monitor the Provide and NAR ag pipeline including gifts and projections.
• Ensure that programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for ethical compliance.
• Maintain in confidentiality of sensitive and emotionally charged information.
• Domestic and international travel and work on weekends when needed.
