The Mekong Peatlands Project supports the governments of Cambodia, Lao PDR and Myanmar, through a range of activities that focus on the sustainable management of peatland ecosystems. The project achieves this through a combination of activities that include: assessments, surveys, capacity building and awareness raising, mainstreaming peatlands into policy and planning, and the demonstration of sustainable peatland management practices at targeted peatland ecosystems in each of the three countries.
The project is comprised of four components:

1. Assessment and documentation of peatlands in targeted countries
2. Capacity development and policy and legal frameworks
3. Development and demonstration of sustainable peatland management
4. Regional cooperation

Also, the project contributes to regional peatland management initiatives, such as the ASEAN Programme on Sustainable Management of Peatland Ecosystems 2014-2020, the ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution (2013), and the ASEAN Peatland Management Strategy 2006-2020.
