Description

The DEI Fellow will specifically lead the implementation of the DEI strategy. This work will entail working with global field teams to provide them with guidance on how to establish DEI governance structures, design DEI action plans that are locally relevant and context-specific, and create reporting mechanisms to track progress. The DEI Fellow will familiarize global field teams with the DEI Implementation Plan and Gender Plan of Action that will be used to execute the strategy to ensure planned actions are delivered on time, on budget, at quality, and with minimum variability—even in the face of unexpected events and contingencies. The process of implementing the global DEI strategy will require strong relationships. The DEI Fellow will play a key role in collaborating with CI leaders, managers, and staff to implement the strategy, monitor progress, and performance, and provide continued support as required. The Fellow will also be expected to build the capacity of staff on DEI principles and concepts and to lead change communications that will empower our teams to transform. The Fellow will address challenges and roadblocks that teams may experience in the process of implementing the strategy.

The DEI Fellowship requires a two (2) year commitment. CI will provide opportunities to expand the breadth of their professional skills and experience through collaboration with a global network of subject matter experts across disciplines. The DEI Fellow will report to the Senior Director of Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and will work closely with Global Field Programs (Center for Oceans, Americas Field Division, Africa Field Division, and Asia Pacific Field Division) and Global Programs  (Sustainable Lands + Waters, Moore Center for Science, Center for Natural Climate Solutions, Center for Communities and Conservation). Specific focus will be given to learning from and building on work to advance CI’s Rights-based Approach and safeguards design and rollout efforts, as well as build upon CI’s Gender Program and the Indigenous and Traditional Peoples Program

RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the execution of the Global DEI Strategy through the establishment of DEI infrastructure (Committees) at the division level and in field offices:

  • Collaborate with the Global Field team to establish DEI Committees to facilitate the execution of the DEI Strategy internally.
  • Cascade the global DEI strategy by developing develop clear action plans and reporting to successfully implement DEI initiatives that are locally relevant and context-specific.
  • Establish and achieve targets and metrics related to locally relevant DEI initiatives.
  • Provide implementation support to clarify accountabilities and strengthen collaboration between CI’s U.S.-based teams and country / regional offices.

Facilitate capacity building of CI staff and DEI Committee members (Focal Points) to strengthen knowledge, skills, and abilities to bolster the implementation of DEI efforts across the organization:

  • Conduct DEI education and training to ensure a common language and shared understanding of DEI concepts based on specific contexts and align expectations in accordance with the global DEI strategy.
  • Support field teams to collect and use appropriate demographic data to be used in influence decision-making on locally relevant DEI initiatives.

Track and manage the implementation of the DEI strategy and ensure all applicable targets/outputs/impacts are communicated appropriately across the organization:

  • Ensure appropriate metrics are in place to measure performance and progress towards our strategic DEI goals.
  • Analyze strategy implementation and propose improvement actions to ensure progress is accurately tracked and monitored.
  • Ensure accountability by measuring the performance of DEI efforts using appropriate tools and techniques such as DEI dashboards, scorecards, and quarterly performance reports.
  • Based on a broad understanding of the DEI goals, identify relevant risks, and develop appropriate mitigation strategies to manage those risks.

Communicate the DEI strategy within CI (locally and globally) and externally with stakeholders:

  • Lead specific change agenda initiatives in support of the DEI strategy including, where applicable, connecting with global change initiatives to maximize coordination and integration.
  • Promote interdependency between organizational teams working on DEI initiatives in our Southern priorities and foundational support
