Description

The Director of People, Culture & Diversity will be responsible for all aspects of Human Resources (HR) for a geographically dispersed and matrixed team. Specific focus includes recruitment, onboarding, learning and development, employee engagement, performance management and leading on the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice (DEIJ) and Indigenous Right Relations (IRR). They will nurture a workplace culture of connectedness and innovation that empowers staff and will develop strategies to support a capable, engaged, and energetic team aligned with Nature United’s values.

They will also be responsible for overseeing and deploying organizational HR processes, ensuring compliance with both statutory regulations and the internal policies of Nature United. They anticipate and respond to complex employee/management questions based on HR and DEIJ experience. Duties are highly confidential and require broad and comprehensive knowledge of Nature United policies and procedures as well as Canadian HR and employment standards. This role may supervise staff and will oversee a team focused on providing people, learning and development goals for the organization.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

Human Resources: The Director of People, Culture & Diversity will be responsible for overseeing a range of HR functions. They will lead on policy development and legal compliance by developing, maintaining, and updating policies and programs to ensure all policies are in line with legislation. They will also advance talent acquisition, development and retention strategies that support a diverse and inclusive team and lead the annual performance partnership process, determining measures required to enhance employee performance and overall team performance. The Director of People, Culture & Diversity will lead the development and implementation of goals and strategies for the team with respect to employee well-being, human resources, DEIJ and IRR.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ): With Nature United leadership and other key staff, the Director of People, Culture & Diversity will lead the development of a multi-year DEIJ action plan. They will finalize the team’s DEIJ Roadmap and manage the implementation, communication, and measurement/evaluation of the Roadmap, as well as report on progress against the recommendations in the Roadmap. They will lead the development and execution of an employee Learning Plan, act as a consultant to teams by providing expertise and cross-boundary linkages related to various DEIJ initiatives and build and maintain working relationships with external partners to effectively support DEIJ learning and objectives.

Indigenous Right Relations (IRR): The Director of People, Culture & Diversity will lead the implementation of the relevant components of Nature United’s Indigenous Right Relations and Reconciliation Action Plan focused on internal policies and practices related to People, Culture and Diversity. They will advance a culturally competent and safe organization by supporting team member learning, development and practices as it relates to being in right relations with Indigenous peoples.  The Director will develop and implement a consistent and fulsome approach to Nature United’s Indigenous Learning Plan (and integrate with broader DEIJ Learning Plan).    In order to achieve the above, the Director of People, Culture & Diversity will work with and provide support to the IRR Advisory Group and Board IRR Committee.
