Impact Finance and Markets is the Nature Conservancy’s newly created division that will oversee and accelerate our work in impact investing, carbon markets and the growing work partnering with corporations to deliver on TNC’s 2030 goals. This division brings together pre-existing teams to form a globally dispersed staff of 60 to provide the organization with leadership, strategic guidance and partnership in conservation finance, commercial market development and corporate practices and supply chains in key sectors.

The Nature Conservancy understands the critical role of investments, corporate practices, and markets in solving the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. The Corporate Engagement Director – Food & Water reports to the Managing Director, Corporate Engagement and works in partnership with the Conservancy’s Provide Food & Water Sustainably team and with related programs across the organization. The Corporate Engagement Director – Food & Water develops and manages strategies, programs and projects to affect corporate strategies, practices and policies and supply chains in order to provide food and water sustainably across the globe.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Corporate Engagement Director – Food & Water develops and implements a strategic framework to engage with and influence companies and other private sector entities in the areas of food, agriculture, fisheries, and water at a scale that furthers Conservancy’s goals and mission.  Duties include strategy development, management of professional staff responsible for relationship, project and program management and implementation, regular contact with corporate representatives, and fundraising to increase the level of financial support for TNC projects and priorities.

Location flexible for all places where TNC has an existing office, although the DC metro area is preferred. Must be willing to accommodate US Eastern Standard Time Zone. No relocation, visa, or immigration assistance is available with this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Manages multi-disciplinary administrative and professional staff with responsibility for performance management, training, and career development. Establishes clear directions and sets stretch objectives.
  • Oversees private sector strategy development and execution in partnership with Global and Regional conservation leads in support of conservation priorities.
  • Ensures that private and public funds are raised to meet program needs.
  • Work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by directives of superiors.
  • Ensures that program meets all legal, contractual, and lobbying regulations and standards.
  • Develops and administers departmental budget and has authority to modify budget based on changing circumstances. Operates within budget guidelines to ensure sound financial performance.
  • Lead internal coordination and communication on activities with the food, agriculture, fisheries, and water corporate sectors, across Conservancy regions and programs.
