POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Coordinator, Major Gifts provides holistic support to the Major Gifts team within CI’s Development Division, serving portfolios across the United States. The Development team raises $50M-$100M annually in funds from individuals and foundations and serves as relationship managers for donors of all levels to catalyze the resources needed for Conservation International to harness nature’s ability to mitigate climate change, to bring ocean conservation to scale globally, to demonstrate sustainability for nature and people in priority landscapes and seascapes, and to accelerate innovation in science and finance for conservation.  

The Major Gifts department manages portfolios of donors and prospects $25,000 and above. Working in close collaboration with the Major Gifts Manager, this position supports portfolio management and donor stewardship and cultivation activities, such as data and list management, mailings, prospect research, donor reporting, small events, gift acknowledgment, and administrative support.  

This position reports to the Senior Managing Director, Major Gifts, and is based in CI’s Global Support Center in Arlington, Virginia. CI prioritizes the safety of its employees, and all staff are currently working remotely full-time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When our office is open and it is safe to do so, the coordinator will work primarily from the office in accordance with CI policies and in keeping with the role’s responsibilities. 

This position does not manage staff. Duties performed under general supervision. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

PORTFOLIO SUPPORT: 

  • -Ensure that all relevant information about donors & prospects within relationship manager portfolios is entered and updated in Raiser’s Edge and generate lists for review (e.g., mailing lists, regional and portfolio giving history). 
  • -Review data behind performance metrics (dashboard) to ensure that they accurately capture fundraising activities.  
  • -Conduct baseline research for new prospects as assigned to be used for donor strategy development by senior Development staff. 

DONOR STEWARDSHIP: 

  • -Assist with the development and finalization of high-quality proposals, concept papers, and reports.   
  • -Help identify opportunities for donor stewardship and outreach around CI priority programs. 
  • -Assist with stewardship mailings to donors across portfolios and appropriate prospects.   
  • -Execute the acknowledgment process for major gifts and board donors, working in partnership with the Major Gifts Manager and VP, Individual Giving. Draft thank you notes and other correspondence as needed. 
  • -Provide support for large and small cultivation and stewardship events (e.g., creating invitation lists, working with vendors, designing and producing invitations, managing and confirming responses, providing logistical support at the event, and executing post-event follow-up).  

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT: 

  • -Schedule team meetings, prepare slide decks, take notes, and assist with tracking follow-up items  
  • -Provide administrative support such as expense reports and coordinating travel for Major Gifts staff.  
  • -Perform related duties as assigned. 

 ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • -The coordinator may be called on to support or collaborate on ad hoc projects with other teams, such as Sojourns, Special Events, or Annual Giving.
