Description

The Nature Conservancy holds conservation easements on private lands throughout Texas. The Conservation Easement Program Manager (“Manager”) will be responsible for leading the management of compliance issues with conservation easements, including some monitoring of easements, managing relationships with landowners, and record management support, and some assistance with land protection projects for the TNC’s Texas Business Unit (BU).

The Conservation Easement Program Manager will work closely with other conservation, science and legal staff to ensure that enforcement issues on conservation easement properties are addressed, and accurate records are kept. The Manager will be responsible for building and maintaining strong landowner relationships and will be a central point of contact, internally and externally, for the Texas BU’s conservation easement program. The Manager will directly address compliance issues on conservation easements including dealing with amendments, violations, and landowner requests for exercising reserved rights. The Manager will also perform some compliance monitoring of conservation easement properties in Texas, including annual field visits, review of satellite imagery for remote monitoring, report writing, and data entry. As part of the Land Protection team, this role may be asked to support and engage on other projects led by team members, including easement transfers, easement acquisition projects, and project due diligence, such as environmental assessments and baseline reports for new acquisitions. The Manager may also be involved in documentation for management and stewardship of our conservation easements and preserve properties across the state, but the primary geographic focus of the work and travel responsibility would be Central and West Texas. The Manager may recruit, train, and supervise seasonal staff and contractors to monitor conservation easements and write reports. Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget, negotiating, and contracting with vendors and other third parties.

The Manager will need to have the ability and willingness to travel within Texas and may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. The most significant travel period is during the field season (April – November).
