Description

The Conservation Coordinator provides technical leadership and support to the Australia business unit by planning, researching and advising on conservation management and policy programs.  They address critical threats to natural systems and individual species, fosters cross-site learning among an international conservation community, and supplies conservation planning teams with site or landscape level information relevant to the planning process. They develop and implement conservation strategies and opportunities, and implements a variety of strategies to secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities. 

This is a full-time role working Monday to Friday, 35-hour week (with some flexibility required).

Only applicants who are currently eligible to work in Australia will be considered.  The Nature Conservancy will not provide support for working visas or residency for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Coordinate the establishment of protected areas or other conservation arrangements over land, freshwater and oceans and public, private and Indigenous tenures with willing partners, governments, landholders and communities. 
  • Undertake project work, research and provide timely conservation advice to Director of Conservation and Science, and managers of other conservation programs (namely Outback, Nature and Agricultural Landscapes, Protect, and Oceans). 
  • Manage multi-disciplinary administrative and professional staff, where appropriate, with responsibility for performance management, training and career development.   
  • Gain cooperation from outside parties to accomplish program goals. 
  • Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development, and meeting fundraising targets.          
  • Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.             
  • Under minimal supervision, makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context. 
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
