Description

The Community Based Conservation (CBC) Leader Leads Community Based Conservation Program and its projects, in design and implementation. Develops innovative methods and methodological frameworks to solve the problems and needs for promoting the implementation of CBC.The CBC Leader is supervised by the Conservation Director and works in close collaboration with other conservation leaders and their teams designing and implementing community initiatives. His/her/they working address must be nearby Valdivia, Chile. The position is for a period of one year fixed term contract with the possibility of renewal for additional years.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • The CBC Leader works closely with the Conservation Director to define CBC priorities and long-term conservation outcomes aligned to Chile’s strategic framework.
  • Promotes the commitment of local communities in supporting local conservation efforts, and supports the negotiation of complex and innovative solutions, to conserve and protect nature.
  • Builds strategic relationships with key stakeholders: society, academy, public and private entities; to identify and solve issues and widely communicate solutions and best practices.
  • The CBC Leader supports other Conservation Programs, including CBC knowledge and practices in different projects. Execute and monitor the projects related to CBC including technical, administrative, and financial issues.
  • Uses TNC’s code of conduct and competencies as a baseline to conduct their actions and be an example for others.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Performs tasks with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
  • Support the Conservation Director on the annual planning of CBC Program priorities and Project Management decisions.
  • Work in close collaboration with other Conservation Coordinators to plan the resources allocated to Community Based projects, activities, and tasks. Management of the community relations, mainly with Valdivian Coastal Reserve program an Ocean program.
  • Monitoring community opportunities and risks, using Stakeholders mapping of influence and interest of the projects, relationship with key stakeholders, among other methodologies.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate methods of data collection, such as questionnaires, interviews, using observation, workshops, documents, or others.
  • Quantitative and qualitative research with collected data about the influence and interest of communities, and relationship between them.
  • Coordination with the Responsible of TNC Chile social media channel in awareness campaigns and the contents in publications.
  • Focal point to TNC LAR and Global Strategies related to CBC group, of the Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLC), Voice Choices and Actions groups (VCA) and Rights and Equity.
  • Integrates Gender approach in the design and implementation of projects.
  • Provide technical advice on the main topics/issues of the CBC group to the Conservation Director, General Director and Conservation Coordinators.
  • Works from the Valdivian Coastal Reserve the majority of the time.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
