Description

Conservation International (CI) has been protecting nature for the benefit of all for over 30 years. Through science, policy, and partnerships, CI is helping build a healthier, more prosperous, and more productive planet.

POSITION SUMMARY

Tropical forests are our greatest natural ally in the fight against climate change. Yet, in many places, they are more valuable dead than alive. Conservation International is working to flip the script through forest-carbon projects, which place a value on the carbon that trees remove from the atmosphere and store. By incentivizing the protection of forests, we can protect the people that depend on them — while helping to bend the climate curve.

To help illuminate the benefits of this critical natural climate solution for policymakers and the public, Conservation International is looking for a Climate Solutions Communications Fellow.

Under the guidance of the Senior Director of Communications and Vice President of Media, the fellow will be responsible for developing and writing a collection of highly accessible content about forest carbon projects, including REDD+. Such content will include blog posts, explainers, op-eds, statements, and contributing to creative communications materials that explore major issues and controversies in the voluntary carbon market, including issues revolving around baselines, additionality, permanence, etc.

The ideal candidate has a broad knowledge of carbon credits and REDD+ is passionate about the potential of nature-based solutions to limit climate change and is a strong and confident writer. Established experience distilling highly technical concepts are essential, as these communications will target non-specialized audiences including journalists, business leaders, policymakers, and the general public.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • -Writing articles, statements, op-eds, and talking points on carbon projects and the voluntary carbon market.
  • -Aiding in responding to media inquiries, including fact-finding and drafting responses.
  • -Other related communications work as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • -Based in Arlington, VA, this position is open to working remotely.
  • -Normal office environment.
  • -The fellowship will last one year from the start date with the possibility of renewal.
