Description

The Climate Policy Associate plays a key role in supporting public policy advocacy to further The Nature Conservancy’s US Climate mitigation program by providing research and policy analysis, working with external partners, and tracking policies and decisions in Congress and federal agencies that directly affect our climate goals. They will serve as a liaison and informational contact between the organization and important public, business, and private partners. They are a proven self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work in teams and manage multiple projects within tight deadlines. They will work with the climate policy team to initiate projects, including policy analysis, development of advocacy materials, metrics tracking, and support to TNC chapters, as requested and defined by the Director of U.S. Climate and Energy Policy. They also build and facilitate internal networks, coordinate meetings, agendas, and presentations, manage projects, and conduct other activities in support of the program. Additionally, this position will coordinate with and provide support to other teams in External Affairs and the North America Region working to advance TNC’s climate mitigation goals, as assigned by supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Works within scope of program’s strategic goals.
  • Provides research and policy analysis in support of federal legislative, policy and/or constituency engagement priorities.
  • Provides assistance with and sometimes leads preparation of program materials including policy-related presentations, memos, and other internal and external communications.
  • Contributes to defining the priorities of The Nature Conservancy’s climate mitigation program, works with state chapters to define and execute associated activities, and tracks progress.
  • Represents The Nature Conservancy in coalitions and develops strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, partner organizations, and/or industry.
  • Influences the outcome of policy initiatives at the national, sub-national, and local levels.
  • Work independently, working with supervisor as needed.
  • May supervise administrative staff and/or volunteers, interns, or temporary staff.
  • Financial responsibility to complete projects appropriately and assist with budget development and meeting fundraising goals for U.S. Climate Mitigation Strategy.
  • Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
