Biodiversa+ is pleased to announce two new calls for tenders to equip businesses with the knowledge and tools they need to integrate biodiversity into their operations.
We are seeking service providers for the following projects:
- Development of a report on using public biodiversity data. This guide will help businesses make effective use of public biodiversity data to assess and report on their biodiversity impacts.
- Development of a report on sharing biodiversity data. This guide will instruct businesses on how to share their biodiversity data in accordance with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles.
Context
More than half of the world’s GDP is heavily dependent on nature and the services it provides. As businesses increasingly recognise this, there is a growing need for tools and resources to help them measure and mitigate their impacts.
As part of its objective to promote the use of biodiversity monitoring data in decision-making, Biodiversa+ organised a workshop with business and civil society representatives in November 2022 to better understand their needs in this regard.
This is a crucial challenge for businesses, especially as the 2022 Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) includes a target that requires administrative or policy measures to encourage and enable businesses to regularly monitor, assess, and transparently disclose their risks, dependencies, and impacts on biodiversity.
In the European Union, in line with the KMGBF, the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 and the overall EU Green Deal aim to accelerate the business sector’s efforts to reduce its impact on biodiversity. Key initiatives and regulations include the EU taxonomy for sustainable activities and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.
Call for tender 1️⃣: Guide for using public biodiversity data
With this shift, the demand for biodiversity data is expected to increase significantly. But while public biodiversity data is abundant, it can be challenging to access, understand, and use. We therefore aim to develop a guide that provides companies with practical instructions on how to access, interpret, and integrate publicly available biodiversity data into their existing reporting frameworks. This guide will be tailored to different business sectors, include real-world examples, and address common challenges.
Call for tender 2️⃣: Guide for sharing biodiversity data
To report on their footprint, businesses may need to use biodiversity data that they collect themselves. This often raises concerns about intellectual property and the risk of disclosing sensitive information. In addition, understanding the different standards and infrastructures for data sharing can be complex. We aim to develop a practical guide to help businesses share biodiversity data in line with the FAIR principles, addressing common concerns and providing guidance on the use of standards and key infrastructures.
Deadline and Contact Information
The deadline to apply for both calls is 3 November 2024, at midnight (CET).
