Description

RMI is seeking an exceptional candidate to fill an Associate position within the Strategic Analysis & Engagement (SAE) group.

The SAE group’s mission is to catalyze and coordinate cutting-edge thought leadership activities at the edges and intersections of RMI programs. We apply systems-thinking approaches to the interlocking behavioral, technoeconomic, and institutional factors that influence the pace and direction of the energy transition and help the Institute develop a central view on pathways to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C. This view is based on 1) an assessment of how those factors interact to advance or slow the energy transition and 2) efforts to identify and implement cross-program or multi-stakeholder collaborations that might accelerate transformative action. Our current efforts focus on:

  • Developing Institute knowledge, modeling and technical analysis, and thought leadership related to the global energy transition. This includes analysis of systems dynamics (e.g., causal loop diagrams, feedback loops), energy-economic scenarios, technology learning curves, and other ways to validate transition pathways that reinforce the achievability of a 1.5°C-aligned future.
  • “Looking around the corner” on emerging trends in and across technology, society, and economy and assessing implications for RMI’s mission, programmatic work, and emerging impact opportunities.
  • Inspiring and equipping leading global energy system actors to take ambitious steps that will unlock new opportunities in the energy transition and creating or contributing to collaborative fora needed to guide and sustain that action.

As an Associate, you would be an independent contributor and will work closely with the team on projects under the direction of more senior staff.

Your Key Responsibilities :

  • Using a hypothesis-driven approach, undertake research, analysis and other support to SAE group initiatives
  • Work with internal and external teams to develop rigorous and critical analysis that helps envision a rapid transition to a clean energy future.
  • Develop and execute creative and rigorous problem-solving approaches to drive project insight
  • Synthesize recommendations into clear and compelling presentations, written reports, or other deliverables
  • Present quantitative information in a clear, visual format
  • Act as a collaborative thought leadership partner and resource to other RMI programs in exploring emerging opportunities for scaled climate impact
  • Rigorously and respectfully challenging findings from RMI teams and partners.
