Description

The Associate Director of Development is a key position within the Latin America Region (LAR) Development Team, implementing and coordinating effective multi-year strategies and plans for gift prospects, including corporate, foundation, and/or high net worth individual donors. They will be responsible for securing deals and/or finalizing donor agreements to meet funding needs for conservation priorities in Brazil and Latin America.  This position focuses on the universe of potential donors for Brazil and supports strategies and solicitations of prospects for Argentina including those based outside of the country.  The ADOD  will build a portfolio of qualified donors, develop strong donor strategies, and build lasting donor relationships. They will effectively communicate the conservation strategies and projects of the Brazil program and Latina America in layperson terms and engage donors through a variety of methods, such as meetings, presentations, events, and field trips.  The ADOD II will be responsible for direct asks for local and regional priorities to meet the funding needs of the Brazil program and the Region’s programs; and listen for opportunities for gifts of assets or other non-cash gifts, such as planned gifts and trade lands.  S/he understands the core business priorities of corporations and is able to structure proposals that deliver value to both TNC and the corporation, also suggesting branding association opportunities when appropriate. They will use the Conservancy’s donor database, develop donor proposals, and involve appropriate partners and staff, keeping them apprised of interactions, issues, or concerns, as appropriate.

Responsibilities and Scope

  • Manage a portfolio of 30 – 60 corporate/foundation/High Net Worth Individual donors with the capacity to give over $250,000 once the portfolio is developed. Responsible for 70 – 90 moves and 10 – 15 letters of intent or proposals annually. Annual fundraising goal of $1,000,000 or more from direct managed portfolio once the portfolio is developed.
  • Supervise Donor Relations Manager focused on Brazil who tracks all fundraising efforts against milestones, objectives, and goals laid out in fundraising strategy.
  • Serve on Brazil Project Review Team (PRT) to offer feedback, review, and approve proposals, concept notes, and letters of intent.
  • Collaborates with Global and Regional fundraisers on six figure or higher opportunities for the Brazil and/or the Latin America Region when appropriate.
  • Supports and/or leads in collaboration with Regional and Business Unit leadership the development of complex regional concept notes, pitches, and proposals (i.e. multi-national corporate proposals).
  • Partner with Director of Development, Brazil Director, and other Regional/Business Unit leadership to refresh the annual fundraising strategy which includes multi-year initiatives.
  • Participate in Monthly Development Work Plan calls to present progress against Brazil Fundraising goals, highlight red flags, and bring relevant topics for discussion with leadership.
  • Act independently and in supervisor’s stead as needed, exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
  • Decisions may have program-wide impact and bind the organization financially or legally.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
  • Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements.
  • Financial responsibility includes working within a budget and recommending and meeting fundraising goals.
  • Manage and implement multiple projects, directing work of staff, managing budget, and setting deadlines.
  • May direct or participate in negotiations for complex, high profile, or sensitive agreements.
  • Persuasively convey the mission of TNC to diverse groups who are important to the organization’s overall prosperity.
  • Travel frequently and on short notice, work long and flexible hours as needed.
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
