NRDC is seeking an Assistant Corporate Counsel, Labor & Employment to work with the Corporate Counsel team in either our San Francisco office or our New York office. The Corporate Counsel team provides in-house legal support to all NRDC programs and departments. This position will focus primarily (but not exclusively) on support for the Human Resources department and NRDC is looking for a mid-level labor and employment attorney adept at devising proactive strategies and solutions across a variety of matters in this area.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities for this position include:
- Support and advise NRDC’s Human Resources team on U.S. and international (China, India) employment-related matters, including hiring, wage and hour compliance, compensation and benefits, employee relations, performance management, internal investigations, claims, remote work issues, leaves of absence and accommodations, and discipline and terminations;
- Work with and manage outside counsel, including with respect to the handling of claims;
- Assist the Human Resources team in drafting and revising policies, designing and implementing internal processes, and creating related employee-facing communications;
- Evaluate employment practices for legal risk, establish priorities for process improvements, and advise on appropriate solutions for compliance issues and employment disputes;
- Monitor legislation, regulations, judicial developments, and government enforcement activities relating to benefits, compensation and employment law;
- Work closely with the Human Resources employee relations and compliance manager, who is responsible for operationalizing employment laws by drafting and implementing compliance-related policies and procedures and ensuring adherence to legal requirements and NRDC policies and practices across multiple jurisdictions; and
- Other duties as assigned.
