On 19 December 2022, the 15th Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity reached a historic agreement on a package of decisions to advance the implementation of the Convention, including the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). This global agreement aims to halt the unprecedented loss of biodiversity and promote the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystem services. On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity and to celebrate this year’s theme “From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity”, the National Ecosystem Assessment (NEA) Initiative looks to shine a light on the importance of effective policy development and implementation to support the achievements of the objectives and targets of the GBF.
