By 2050, two billion city dwellers could face drought risks, doubling today’s figure. Urban areas are particularly vulnerable due to high soil sealing, limited groundwater storage, and rising temperatures, which exacerbate drought frequency, severity, and duration. In Europe alone, drought events have increased by 29% since 2000, underscoring the urgency of climate adaptation.
On 17 March 2025, from 15:00 to 16:15 CET, OECD Green Talks LIVE will explore strategies for adapting urban areas to increasing water scarcity during the launch of the new OECD report, “Adapting the Paris Metropolitan Area to a Water-Scarce Future.”
Key highlights:
- Presentation of report findings by OECD Policy Analyst Sophie Lavaud
- Expert discussion on drought risk management featuring high-level speakers
- Live Q&A session for audience engagement
This event provides an opportunity to gain insights into the challenges and solutions for building climate resilience in urban environments.
