Francophone Africa Virtual Trialogue Sessions in COVID-19 Context with Special Focus on Indigenous People and Local Communities
The COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult to organize the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Network (BES-Net) project’s face-to-face Francophone Africa Regional Trialogue on Land Degradation, Pollinators and Food Security, as it was originally planned in 2020. While waiting for the new dates of the Regional Trialogue to be set, BES-Net leveraged the growing dependence on virtual communication during the COVID-19 crisis to pilot innovative Pre-Trialogue virtual dialogue sessions.
The dialogue sessions engaged particularly those stakeholders who are practitioners, users and stewards of natural resources (referred to as the Practice Community) in the target countries of the Trialogue. These include the representatives of Indigenous Peoples and local communities and those who hold Indigenous and local knowledge around the Trialogue thematic areas, namely pollinators/pollination and land rehabilitation/restoration.
The Pre-Trialogue virtual dialogue sessions aimed to enhance practitioners’ participation in and contribution to the Francophone Africa Regional Trialogue by providing them with an opportunity for meaningful dialogue and knowledge exchange, using various online platforms and supporting tools.
