Introductory Workshop for Countries Supported by the BES Solution Fund
The BES Solution Fund Workshop Series - Part I

The BES Solution Fund is a catalytic fund provided under the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Network (BES-Net) project to support selected countries that participated in BES-Net’s past Regional Trialogues (triangular dialogue and capacity-building methodology for policy, science, and practice communities) or developed national ecosystem assessments in implementing their respective national action plans to support tangible, on-the-ground biodiversity solutions.

Knowledge Exchange and Capacity-building among the BES Solution Fund Beneficiary Countries

Knowledge Exchange and Capacity-building among the BES Solution Fund Beneficiary Countries

In 2021, the Biodiversity and Ecosystems Services Network (BES-Net) envisioned a series of knowledge exchange and capacity-building workshops to support the target countries benefitting from the BES Solution Fund in the First Phase (2020-2023).
Aware of the challenges and opportunities in developing and implementing workplans to implement the Fund, BES-Net aims to foster a peer-to-peer learning process, networking, and exchange towards establishing the BES Solution Fund Community of Practice (CoP).

Objectives of the Introductory Workshop
The introductory workshop was held online via Zoom in October 2021. It brought together about 30 participants from Kazakhstan, Kenya, Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago, providing them with the space to build a network and shared the experiences on the IPBES thematic assessment uptake to date. The workshop also offered an opportunity for the country teams to identify the mutual areas of interest to be exchanged, gaps to be addressed and opportunities to be pursued in the future workshop series. It aimed to:
Initiate peer-to-peer communication aiming at the development of a community of practice (CoP) among the BES Solution Fund’s first-phase beneficiary countries.
Foster sharing of experiences, lessons, and knowledge among the BES Solution Fund’s first phase beneficiary countries.
Identify opportunities and challenges in the implementation of the work plan for the Fund.
Illustrate priority thematic areas for future capacity-building activities aiming at supporting the BES Solution Fund’s first phase beneficiary countries in the implementation of the fund.
Further, the introductory workshop aimed to engage key partners from the science, policy and practice communities involved in implementing the BES Solution Fund, including the UNDP Country Office focal persons, representatives from government agencies (including the IPBES focal point) and other relevant stakeholders.
