Join Bees Abroad for a special event with Sarah Wyndham Lewis and Shane Holland on sustainable beekeeping, food production and social justice. Sarah will be an sharing inspiring story on beekeping in Copenhagen that includes urban planting to support bees and other urban wildlife and beekeeping as an activity to support drug-rehabilitation. Shane will be speaking on Slow Food in the UK and some of the projects they run, including working with some of the most underserved communities in the country on growing projects to show how healthy orhanic food isn’t just for the wealthy.
About Shane Holland, Executive Chair of Slow Food UK
Shane Holland is the Executive Chairman of Slow Food in the UK. He has held CEO positions within both the business and the third sectors and has chaired a number of large NFPS. His work has particularly encompassed food and health, access to food, and food and climate change – including being part of the COP26 delegation.
He is past chair of both Eat Club , the organisation that teaches food skills to young people, and Plan Zheroes, the platform that connects surplus fresh food with charities and people in need. He frequently sits on expert panels and gives advice to a number of statutory agencies; appears both in print and on TV & radio; lectures at universities; has given a TED Talk as one of their “Architects of Tomorrow”; and typically carries out dozens of speaking engagements a year both within the UK and internationally.
About author Sarah Wyndham-Lewis
In 2007, Sarah Wyndham Lewis and her husband, Dale Gibson, founded Bermondsey Street Bees , a sustainable beekeeping practice with both urban and rural apiaries.
Planting for their hives prompted Sarah write her bestselling book ‘Planting for Honeybees’ (Quadrille, 2018) . Working with both third sector and commercial support, she’s gone on to establish and mentor the creation of pollinator gardens in many different countries.
Sarah is also a professional Honey Sommelier, judges in leading food awards and works within the Slow Food movement.
