Purpose of the course
Harness past experiences of the use of IPBES assessment outcomes to develop use options for the IPBES thematic assessment on invasive alien species and their control in national policy making & implementation.
Day 1:
Session 1 (1,5h): Introduction
- Introductions to CABES, CCDP, the trainers
- Introduction to the course topics
- Introduction of participants and reflection of the experiences with the use of IPBES assessments
Session 2 (1,5h): Panel discussion
In two panels, one in English and one in French, experts introduce case studies on how to use IPBES assessments and answer questions by participants. Together with the participants own experience the discussions of case studies will result in a list of strategies and tactics with potential risks and success factors to utilize IPBES assessment outcomes in national policy making.
Session 3 & 4 (3 h): Introduction to the IPBES thematic assessment on invasive alien species with the focus on problems and challenges arising from IAS
- Introduction of the assessment with the focus on problems and challenges arising from IAS
- Participants reflect problems and challenges arising from IAS against their country or other work contexts
Day 2
Session 5: Introduction to the IPBES thematic assessment on invasive alien species with the focus on practices, measures, capacities and tools to address IAS
Participants receive a series of presentations on the assessment and will have the opportunity to ask questions to the experts. Also, case studies will be presented on how IAS could potentially be included in policy making and implementation, including revisions of NBSAPs.
Session 6 & 7 (3h): Drafting concept notes
The interactive session will be structured as follow:
- Introduction to the exercise (15 mins)
- Breakout group sessions where participants work on concept notes for their
own contexts to use the assessment outcomes in national policy making &
implementation (1h45mins) - Back to the plenary and presentation from each group, followed by a Q&A
session (1h)
Session 8 (1,5h): Course summary and participant reflection
- Review of key takeaways
- Participant feedback and reflections
