We are currently looking for additional capacity to support the team at a busy time. This is an opportunity to position for a potential longer-term role focused on project quality and delivery, from new project origination through to operation and delivery, with the potential to bring your specialists areas of interest to our technical value-adding services.
You will be part of a high calibre, international NBS technical team and will work closely with experienced NBS Commercial Managers and Carbon Project Delivery colleagues preparing Project Design Documents and supporting the validation process, developing and updating carbon models, supporting due diligence by investors on our originated projects and carrying out quality due diligence on projects from which we are sourcing credits.
Reporting into the Project Development Director, you will be at the centre of accelerating the growth of Climate Impact Partners’ NBS project development portfolio, building on our award-winning reputation as a voluntary carbon project developer. Climate Impact Partners offers an environment in which to succeed in delivering impact through development of new projects, with a fully integrated strategy spanning supply and demand, long-term industry relationships and influence and a strong international policy and regulatory team.
Responsibilities
- Lead carbon asset development for our projects, working closely with local partners, completing or overseeing the preparation of Project Design Documentation and monitoring plans through to validation.
- Provide peer review of PDDs and carbon models within the expert NBS Technical team.
- Working with the Carbon Project Delivery team, provide ongoing oversight of the technical carbon and monitoring aspects of selected operational development projects to ensure performance, delivery and reporting.
- Working with the Head of Technical Due Diligence, lead the due diligence of projects from which Climate Impact Partners is sourcing carbon credits, presenting to the senior Due Diligence Committee and supporting Clients Solutions colleagues as needed.
- For our development pipeline projects, working closely with experienced Commercial Managers in the financing process, support the due diligence process for clients and investors, and contributing to understanding and mitigation of project risk.
- Contribute to the development of best practice in carbon modelling, project design and monitoring protocols across our portfolio.
- Keep up to date with changes in voluntary carbon standards, assessing implications for Climate Impact Partners’ projects and support input on consultations.
Capabilities and Experience
- Extensive experience in NBS project development or related roles.
- A degree or comparative experience in a relevant field such as forestry, ecology, biological conservation or environmental management is preferable but not essential.
- Proven experience in preparing and/or reviewing Project Design Documents and monitoring reports for leading international carbon standards, through to validation, monitoring and verification.
- Knowledgeable about key elements of the carbon development process such as baselining, field data collection and analysis, GIS, carbon modelling, forest and biomass inventories, biodiversity mapping and community engagement.
- The ideal candidate will have experience in multiple NBS pathways (including ARR) and an understanding of performance and delivery risk.
- Experience working with local partners, with an understanding of the on-the-ground challenges and realities of project and carbon delivery.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
- Is prepared to constructively challenge project partners to ensure that project design assumptions and project information are credible and robust, building a productive long-term relationship in which our value is clearly demonstrated.
- Has a strong attention to detail and able to identify what is most important to address; has a proven understanding of project risks and how these impact commercial discussions.
- Is able to communicate clearly and concisely to a range of audiences, from technical to non-technical experts.
- Has a strong collaborative attitude combined with a willingness to work with a high degree of autonomy.
- Can manage competing priorities.
- Sets high standards for ethical behaviour.
- Is comfortable with making pragmatic recommendations with the best available – and often imperfect – information, working collaboratively to form views.
- Language skills would be an asset (including Spanish).
- Willing to travel internationally to project sites.
