Gender

BES-Net is committed to upholding gender equality and leaving no one behind in its work.

BES-Net is dedicated to fostering gender equality and uplifting the voices of women, girls and marginalized communities in biodiversity conservation and ecosystem management.

BES-Net recognizes that gender roles and responsibilities, as well as the knowledge related to the use and management of natural resources, are diverse and influenced by deep-rooted social norms and inequalities.

To address these disparities, BES-Net aims to:

Enhance Representation

We promote the active participation of women, girls, vulnerable communities and gender advocates in knowledge production and decision-making processes. BES-Net works towards balanced gender representation in Regional Trialogues, national ecosystem assessments and other key platforms, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued.

Strengthen Partnerships and Awareness

BES-Net collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders, including women’s groups, civil society organizations and gender-focused institutions. By leveraging our extensive network, we build awareness and advocate gender-responsive and intersectional policies and practices in biodiversity conservation.

Mainstream Gender and Address Intersectional Inequalities

Aligned with the commitment to leaving no one behind, BES-Net addresses multiple and intersecting forms of deprivation, disadvantage and discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, health status, age, class, caste, and sexual orientation and identity. We prioritize building resilience by fully involving women on equal terms in decision-making and ensuring gender-responsive production of knowledge and its uptake.

By focusing on these pillars, BES-Net aims to create a more inclusive and equitable approach to biodiversity conservation. We recognize and celebrate the unique knowledge and capabilities of women and marginalized groups, fostering resilient ecosystems and promoting sustainable development for all.
