“Clarifying Norms in Conservation and Human Rights” side event will be held at the 55th session of the Human Rights Council.
The purpose of this side event is multifaceted. Firstly, it aims to raise awareness about the significant impact of conservation and funding organizations on Indigenous Peoples, specifically focusing on the repercussions for their human rights. Secondly, it seeks to convene experts from various relevant fields to participate in a comprehensive examination and clarification process regarding the standards applicable to these scenarios. Additionally, the initiative aims to facilitate the clarification of human rights standards relevant to conservation efforts, particularly highlighting the roles of conservation organizations and funders. Moreover, it aims to spotlight key advancements made within the KM-GBF concerning acknowledging Indigenous Peoples’ roles. Lastly, the webinar intends to foster discussions surrounding challenges and requirements, including the necessity for additional human rights guidance, to address the human rights implications of nature conservation effectively.
