As the Climate Science (CS) Program Manager for Global Science, this position will collaborate with and support the Director of Climate Science to develop two new workstreams related to climate science and an adaptation. The Program Manager will be responsible for building relationships between Global Science and other teams within and outside the organization who work on climate adaptation and mitigation.  By building networks, they will identify opportunities to link climate science and adaptation to policy and conservation actions prioritized by TNC’s global, regional, and country business units.  They will also prepare and manage annual work plans for the growing Climate Science team. They will enable teams to meet administrative requirements based on knowledge of policies and procedures. They will improve workflow and assist staff in making decisions and solving problems. They will implement processes and practices to increase project effectiveness.

We’re looking for someone who can serve as a climate science Program Manager for diverse conservation initiatives. Communication, managing complex science projects, working with diverse teams, organization and attention to detail, working effectively both independently and and being adaptable to shifting needs and priorities are key in this role.

The CS Program Manager will be responsible for multiple tasks related to project management such as scheduling, planning, and execution of logistics for special events and/or regular meetings, purchasing, drafting, and tracking contracts, and maintaining team filing systems. They may track project data, prepare and review reports, and work with other project staff to maintain and update reporting dashboards. They will respond to inquiries about program activities, create program materials, and draft correspondence. They will be well versed in the systems and resources utilized by the team to execute assigned tasks. The CS Program Manager will build and facilitate networks by communicating with staff and stakeholders within and outside the Conservancy.
The Climate Science Program Manager Responsibilities & Scope include:

  • Act independently and in supervisor’s stead, as needed; exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
  • Co-design and manage projects that advance the strategic goals of GS and TNC.
  • Manage workflow and enable effective communication among GS members.
  • Coordinate the work of virtual, cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams towards a desired outcome or report.
  • Set up high-level work plans for new projects, and track and follow-up on action items promoting an HET culture and tools.
  • Partner with global, regional, & country teams to systematize & track metrics that gauge project progress.
  • Research, aggregate, synthesize, edit, and summarize information as needed for projects and reports.
  • Manage and curate materials to support climate science communications, including newsletters, reports and press releases
  • Reporting and communicating on project impact to TNC and project partners.
  • Being self-motivated in ongoing learning so that skills remain current.
  • Working in a complex matrix organization environment.
  • Provide administrative support for scheduling and logistics for project calls, events, and work groups.
  • Facilitate external consultant contracts and payments, and track consultant deliverables.
  • Being willing to travel between two to seven weeks per year locally, regionally, and internationally as required to meet project and strategy needs. We prioritize virtual engagement but recognize that some projects may require travel.
