Description

The Operations Specialist will work as part of a team and lead operations processes for The Nature Conservancy in Indiana.  They will be responsible for ensuring that operations functions are fully supported and well-integrated across all departments.  They will reinforce consistency in the organization’s policies and procedures, provide direction and training, and keep up to date on the Conservancy’s operations to provide efficient and accurate services.  The Operations Specialist will balance managing the day to day needs of the Indiana Chapter with cyclical projects that support our people and streamline operational processes.  They may also assist with specialized functions supporting operations across the Conservancy’s Midwest Division.

Operations duties include oversight of facility management, vendors, contracts, and sustainability for the Conservancy’s LEED Platinum office in Indianapolis and several project offices throughout the state.  They will lead central purchasing and procurement efforts, including vehicle fleet management, maintaining office supplies and equipment, and coordinating telecommunication needs.  They will oversee functions related to insurance and provide support with assets and claims.  The Operations Specialist will also support safety initiatives within the Chapter regarding people and facilities, such as responding to inquiries and developing and communicating safety plans.  They will partner with the Indiana Director of Finance & Operations to implement chapter sustainability efforts and local employee engagement opportunities such as onboarding, training, and meetings.  The Operations Specialist may perform administrative tasks, including processing forms, researching data, providing backup reception services, and monitoring and preparing budgets and contracts.  They will maintain business unit records and are well versed in the systems and resources utilized by the team.  Based on extensive knowledge of policies and procedures, they will distribute information to assist staff in making decisions, solving problems, and improving workflow.  The Operations Specialist will communicate with staff in various programs across the Conservancy, as well as with donors, volunteers, and vendors.  They may supervise administrative staff or volunteers and act as a resource to others to solve problems.

This is a full-time position based at our office in Indianapolis, Indiana with remote work one day per week.  The compensation range begins at $53,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The position requires some travel and flexible hours as needed.  The work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years related experience; or equivalent combination.
  • Experience coordinating administrative processes.
  • Experience generating reports and interpreting data.
  • Experience in business writing, editing, and proofreading.
  • Experience organizing time and managing diverse activities to meet deadlines.
  • Experience working across teams and communicating with a wide range of people.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
