The Associate Director of Global Policy and Campaigns is responsible for leading the development of 350.org’s policy work, ensuring there are clear and agreed policy positions relating to key issues and areas of work, and that campaigns across the organization can be built integrating substantive, credible policy analysis.

Through developing and maintaining a clear process for analysis of climate policy news and the creation of talking points and responses, as well producing regular briefings for the organization on current geopolitical contexts and trends, the Associate Director of Global Policy and Campaigns will ensure that 350.org is attuned to the latest developments in climate diplomacy and that our campaigns and communications are optimized to respond and relate to them.

This role will also lead global campaigns that contribute to 350.org’s strategy, with a focus on the financing of the fossil fuel industry. A key project that this role will lead on brings together campaigning from 350.org’s Asia, Africa and Europe Regional Teams and external partners. This campaign involves high level negotiations with a major financial institution and navigating a globally distributed campaign coalition through challenging diplomatic territory.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on developing and signing off on cross-organizational policy work;
  • Provide timely inside intelligence on all our key policy areas, as relates to our campaigns;
  • Produce reports designed to brief the organization on current geopolitical contexts and trends and to steer the trajectory of our strategies and decisions on campaigns;
  • Advise 350’s leadership bodies as required on policy related topics and issues;
  • Provide direct leadership and support to teams across the organisation to consider policy insights and geopolitical contexts and trends to the development of their campaigns and communications;
  • Hold key relationships with our ‘inside track’ partners and acting as a representative of 350 in key spaces;
  • Manage any required contractors or freelance staff;
  • Collaborate with digital staff to run effective digital campaigns that answer to campaign objectives;
  • Manage relevant budgets;
  • Create and manage cross-organizational spaces for ideation, sharing knowledge and developing strategy;
  • Engage with partner organizations as needed to support 350’s policy work;
  • Act as a 350.org spokesperson;
  • Collaborate with the Trainings and Organizing departments to develop finance campaign materials and workshops;
  • Engage in initiatives that foster team collaboration, including meetings, trainings, retreats, and special projects;
  • As a member of the Global Campaigns Team, support the development and running of 350’s campaigning ‘Community’, made up of campaigns staff across the organization;
  • Support and input on the development of grant  proposals and other fundraising initiatives;
  • Support the operationalization of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion into campaign planning.
  • Other responsibilities assigned by the Global Campaigns Director.
