Description

Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) is a complex conservation approach designed to ensure durable financing for a region’s conservation priorities. PFP combines a robust strategic plan for conservation with fully secured funding and financing to result in long-term, durable conservation outcomes. For Mongolia, TNC is initiating planning and assessments to 1) determine whether the conditions to successfully develop and implement a PFP initiative for Mongolia are in place and 2) if enabling conditions are present, develop and design the PFP in partnership with the Government of Mongolia, stakeholders and local communities. The PFP will be designed to contribute significantly to durable protection of important natural ecosystems to achieve biodiversity, climate change, and human well-being objectives. A core component of the PFP in Mongolia is the expansion and improvement of national protected areas (NPAs) to achieve the 2030 protected area goals as well as the improved management of existing NPAs and strengthening CBNRM across 34 million ha of important geographies. To achieve these goals, an extensive planning process for the PFP is required that compiles information to inform conservation planning, funding needs, financing mechanisms, policy analysis, governance, and government relations.

The PFP Communications Coordinator implements tactics in approved communication and/or media strategies by providing general administrative and programmatic support to department/team unit.  They are responsible for developing, maintaining, and distributing relevant communication and/or media materials. They maintain media contacts, write news releases, and respond to media requests and inquiries. The PFP Communications Coordinator makes recommendations for new audience targets and conservation messages. They track results of program initiatives and reports findings to program managers. They help facilitate and coordinate on-going communication between all parts of the globally dispersed marketing division, internal and external stakeholders.

The PFP Communications Coordinator will work under supervision of the PFP manager and will support in implementing effective communication and/or media tactics that facilitates comprehension, adoption and advancement of the project goals and objectives, as outlined in the approved strategies and plans.  They help to facilitate on-going communication between all parts of the globally dispersed internal and external stakeholders and identifies communication and media needs and opportunities within purview. They research, write, and distribute wide variety of communication materials including but not limited to op-eds, news releases, fact sheets, web articles and blog posts, as directed in project marketing plan.  They actively identify target audiences and cultivates media contacts on a local and national levels and responds to media requests and inquiries, with following responsibilities and scope:

  • Develops and prepares briefing materials and external communications on the PFP.
  • Develops communication materials and tools to facilitate information exchange with stakeholders and local communities.
  • Provides news and updates to regional and global team members.
  • Supports the Project Manager on the development of documents, slide decks and translations.
  • Assists with preparing donor communication materials.
  • Tracks and reports on media coverage about TNC work in Mongolia.
  • Manages storage and distribution of media/communication materials.
  • Serves as team lead on assigned communications and/or media initiatives.
  • Duties are performed under general supervision and established guidelines.
