Description

In support of CI’s overall mission and as a permanent member of the executive committee of CI’s leadership team, the Executive Vice President (EVP) for Global Programs works closely with the CEO and other leaders to develop and oversee the core strategic direction (Southern Cross) of the organization.  In this regard, the EVP serves as a key internal leader for CI’s vision, strategy, and values.  The EVP has management oversight for CI’s centers of expertise including but not limited to science, indigenous peoples, global policy, commodity supply chains, restoration, biodiversity, natural climate solutions, and some corporate partnerships. The EVP leads a large cross-section of team members with deep knowledge and expertise and works with field programs to design and implement innovative solutions to achieve our strategic conservation vision at scale. The EVP plays an essential role in marshaling the resources (from talent to tools to funding) necessary to achieve results on a global scale. The EVP represents CI at the highest levels, serving as an exceptional global representative of CI in public and private forums, and often works directly with CI’s Board of Directors. The EVP serves as an officer of CI and has the authority to legally bind the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In collaboration with the CEO, spearhead the development and implementation of effective core strategies (Southern Cross strategy) and processes to deliver on CI’s mission.
  • In collaboration with CI leadership, ensure that CI has put in place all of the appropriate policies, practices, and systems required to optimize the use of its resources and monitor the allocation of resources to reflect priority needs and future potential.
  • Play a leadership role in reinforcing a values-driven culture; one focused on implementation, efficiency, and outcomes.
  • Lead CI’s Centers of issue experts, by defining strategies and monitoring accountability for the development and achievement of measurable outcomes, assessing, and addressing the programmatic and operational performance of leadership and programs.
  • Accountable for the overall administrative, financial, and leadership of the team and its divisions, and that these are conducted in a manner that ensures delivery, provides a motivating environment, and are in compliance with laws and CI policies.
  • Represent CI in global forums, and conferences and build partnerships needed to advance CI’s agenda, including multilateral agencies, government bodies, foundations, NGOs, and private sector partners.
  • Fundraise and secure gifts at the multimillion-dollar level.

PEOPLE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee divisions of approximately 100 – 200 team members.
  • Responsible for significant funding as well as the organization’s overall budget.
  • Serve as an officer of CI with legal authority to bind the organization.
