Description

The Community Engagement Officer will lead the community engagement processes to support the Mangoro Market Meri Program, with a focus on empowering women around mangrove conservation. The Community Engagement Officer position is based in Port Moresby and will report to the Mangoro Market Meri Program Manager. This is a fixed two-year position that ends in June 2024. The position may be extended depending on funding and program needs.

The Mangoro Market Meri Program (MMM) is led by women for women across Papua New Guinea (PNG) to manage their mangroves sustainably. Supported by The Nature Conservancy (TNC), it is a platform for women to generate income based on sustainable management of their mangroves.

The Community Engagement Officer will work closely with the MMM Program Manager to research and design appropriate tools to gather data & information to facilitate the community engagement process that will inform sustainable livelihoods options, climate mitigation, biodiversity conservation & restoration, social inclusion (with special focus on women) and capacity building programs for the MMM Program. They must be able to travel and work in remote locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for implementing the MMM Community Engagement Process with a special focus on women and vulnerable groups. Main responsibilities will include:

  • Research and identify specific tools to collect qualitative and quantitative data & information.
  • Compile data and information to produce appropriate questionnaires to use during community engagement process.
  • Implement the MMM community engagement process including consultation, scoping, profiling, gender analysis, resource mapping, problem analysis, visioning and natural resource inventory etc. to guide program activities and implementation.
  • Identify and conduct trainings for social inclusion, with a special focus on women, and ensure diversity and inclusiveness are considered.
  • Produce reports on trainings, including sex disaggregate data of participants.
  • Identify key focal points in the communities and maintain those relationship to further the community engagement process.
  • Identify key partners who can support community engagement and social inclusion.
  • Identify and participate in gender-related forums to network with partners and other stakeholders
  • Provide support and guidance to other team members who will be assisting in the process at the community level.
  • Ensure clear monitoring, evaluation and learning for the community engagement process, social inclusion, and capacity building programs from entry through to exit in each MMM site.
  • Ensure timely submission of reports and acquittals to MMM Program Manager.
  • Promote an ongoing commitment to equity, diversity and child protection.
  • Promote a safe and secure work environment by fostering a culture of safety and security awareness and ensure compliance with the safety and security policies and procedures.
