Description

The Prospect Research Manager will work towards meeting the strategic priorities of the program by developing and coordinating tactics for all areas related to prospect research, and completing and/or overseeing day-to-day tasks, including fielding researching requests, donor profiles, and providing portfolio input. They will manage the Prospect Research Analyst. They will identify prospect research projects, including proactive prospecting for both teams and specific Conservancy initiatives, and will track on rolled-out prospects. They will manage guidelines and analyze information to achieve results, improve workflow, and solve problems. They will report to leadership on activities. The Manager must be an expert in the systems and resources utilized by the team; they must apply knowledge to managing support and designing communications related to the resources. They will develop documentation, modify processes, and participate in the enhancement of systems and tools used by the team. The Manager will keep up-to-date on market trends and best practices in prospect research and prospect management in order to improve services. The Manager works in close cooperation with any or all of the following: Conservancy staff, donors, Trustees, vendors, public agencies, financial institutions and legal and accounting professionals. They will provide advice, recommendations, and training related to the functional area of the team, including refreshers on ratings and research. They will manage diverse tasks, analyze situations, evaluate alternatives, project outcomes, and implement solutions in order to improve effectiveness.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Accountability for strategic goals related to prospect research.
  • Act independently and in supervisor’s stead as needed, exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
  • Decisions may bind the organization financially or legally.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
  • Provide centralized support to all fundraisers.
  • Partner with Worldwide Office Prospect Development staff to ensure that prospect research on California suspects and prospects is accomplished in a synchronized and strategic manner.
  • Develop and implement new initiatives that will ensure department and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved.
  • Ensure programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
  • Financial responsibility includes assisting with the development of a budget, working within a budget, and negotiating and contracting with vendors.
  • Manage and implement multiple projects, including managing budget, setting deadlines and ensuring accountability.
  • May manage or participate in complex negotiations.
  • May supervise one or more administrative or professional staff, responsibility includes training and professional development.
  • Travel occasionally, work long and flexible hours as needed.
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
  • Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.
