Description

The MNCP provides technical leadership and support to TNC Ocean and Climate Change teams and plans and directs conservation management programs and stewardship in Marismas Nacionales. The MNCP addresses critical threats to natural systems, individual species and local communities, fosters cross-site learning among conservation community, and supplies conservation planning teams with site or landscape level information relevant to the planning process. The MNCP develops and implements conservation and sustainable development strategies to secure public and private support for TNC priorities. The MNCP oversees community involvement, and support the implementation of multiple local projects at different level of development (including management, setting and meeting deadlines, ensuring project completion) in the White Shrimp Fishery Improvement Project, the Marismas Nacionales Blue Carbon Resilient project, and the Marismas Nacionales Restoration Initiative. They will provide assistance and inputs to TNC Development staff for fundraising proposals and collect means of verifications for projects report and Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) system.  They use TNC code of conduct and competencies as a baseline to conduct their actions and be an example for others.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Performs tasks with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
  • May supervise technical and professional staff with responsibility for performance management, training and development.
  • Ensures timely implementation of site-based projects
  • Documents processes and lessons for project learning and strategy improvement
  • Coordinates and ensures priority alignment between field work-related activities among projects in Marismas Nacionales, including but not limited to: support in the development of a regional socioeconomic baseline, monitoring of socioeconomic, habitat and ecosystem indicators, and implement TNC´s Human Rights Guide
  • Ensures timely and clear communication, both internally and externally with partners
  • Builds strategic partnerships with communities and partners, including fishing cooperatives, government agencies, and NGO conservation partners to enhance implementation of TNC’s multiple local projects in the Marismas Nacionales region.
  • Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
  • Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating, and contracting with local vendors and assisting with budget development.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
